Description Toshiro Mifune stars as Isaburo, an aging swordsman living a quiet life until his clan lord orders that his son marry the lord's mistress, who has recently displeased the ruler. Reluctantly, father and son take in the woman, and, to the family's surprise, the young couple fall in love.

samurai rebellion, 2008-09-24 by far my favorite samurai movie of all time. just can't believe kurusawa didn't direct. not much in the way of special features but a terrific rendition of the film. All the lessons of the zato ichi movies in one congruent powerful film
Discounted love--selling the human spirit one outrage at a time, 2008-04-25 Push and you step back.
Push further and you step back further.
But at the last moment, you skillfully switch from defense to offense.
*The secret principles of sworplay*
Isaburo(Mifune)and his family grow tired of being pushed back by the strong arm of tyranny. This is an incredible story of their rebelling against injustice.
Kobayashi miraculously matches the high standards of compelling storytelling he achieved with HARAKIRI. Toshiro Mifune once again harnesses the savage intensity that is unmatched in any samurai film. This engaging drama pulls you in tight and never lets you go. Brilliant filmmaking.
Watch it even if it isn't your kind of movie., 2008-12-11 This is absolutely my favorite film of all time. It is brilliantly made and acted in a time when many films could not connect a far away place with the way we feel today. I bought the Rebel Samurai Collection because it included Samurai Rebellion and three other films. I personally enjoy this genre and was familiar with the other films included in that set and I couldn't pass it up. I will say this movie is the one to get if you have not experienced Japanese cinema but have heard of movies such as Rashomon and Red Beard(although those are excellent films in their own right). Mifune is a legend and this movie is his stand.
Samurai Rebellion - Criterion Collection, 2010-01-04 A young man, with the help of his father, rebels against his overlord in order to keep his wife. This movie is incredible demonstration of how powerful combination old-fashion directing and modern (for that time) elements can be. long and wonderful objective panoramas, subjective close-ups, great music. A masterpiece.
Another great movie, 2008-12-31 I've come to believe that Toshiro Mifune would not undertake a bad movie.
I have never been disappointed in any of his that I have bought.
