Can't wait to get to Maui!, 2010-08-25 This book will be invaluable for our upcoming trip to Maui! Written very well and often with humor plugged in!
Maui revealed reviewed, 2010-08-25 The book plus the website were invaluable tools that helped us plan our Hawaiian vacation. I highly recommend this book.
Thank you, Maui Revealed!!!, 2010-08-18 We used the "Maui Revealed" book for our once in a lifetime vacation to Maui. We went there to meet up with our son who is a US Marine and who we hadn't seen for almost 2 years. Maui was a halfway point. So my husband and I were there with him (21 years old) and our youngest son (18 years old). We couldn't have a quiet, boring vacation with all that testosterone hanging around! Maui Revealed saved the day for us! This book told of all kinds of exciting places and things to do in Maui. We hiked, zip-lined, swam in caves, flew in ultralights, geocached, snorkeled, swam with sea turtles and many more adventures. I think we spent one day out of 10 just relaxing on the beach. It was perfect! And we owe it all to this book. Thank you!
Don't go to Maui without it, 2010-08-31 My only mistake was with not always using Maui Revealed before and during our visit to Hawaii. Whenever I struck out on my own to a beach, site, or restaurant, or followed a recommendation from another source, I was let down because the choice never matched the outstanding quality of recommendations in this book.
Time after time, we found great local restaurants, exciting local shops, great things to do, and terrific places to visit based on this book (and based on the companion Big Island book as well). Having GPS coordinates for some of the destinations was especially helpful (yes, you should bring your GPS).
Of all the resources available for my trip, including Trip Advisor and many tourist guides, this book was easily the best. I could have saved a lot of time by using ONLY this book, and I really should have paid attention when the authors suggested a 4 wheel drive on the Big Island and a convertible on Maui (Unfortunately, I did the reverse).
Useful book, but needs a lot of time to read, 2010-08-05 I purchased this about a week before my 6-day trip to Maui. The book is very vast, it covers almost everything in Maui. Besides discussing the attractions and activities, the author also discusses the island's history, the language of the natives, the customs in great detail (which I though isn't necessary).
Most of this book's reader's will be visiting Maui for a stay less than a week. And it's impossible to do even 10% of the activities and attractions described in this book in that time frame. So I think the author should come up with a list of the top things to do in Maui in 5-7 days (depending on the season of the year you're visiting) and put these lists in a separate chapter to avoid randomizing the visitors by some not-so-spectacular attractions.
I'm giving this book a 4-star only because of the time it requires to read and the added burden on the reader of prioritizing the activities. Otherwise I would have rated it a 5.
