Initially, Sam just seems quirky, but eventually he tells her his secret: he's a time traveler from 400 years in the future. Happy Accidents walks a delicate line between genres, never making it clear whether Sam is delusional or telling the truth until the end. The strange blend of genres (which plays like romantic comedy, not like science fiction) may make some viewers balk, but writer-director Brad Anderson (Next Stop Wonderland) has a gift for both revealing psychological insights and sensual moments--like when Sam explains principals of time travel by running his hands up Ruby's leg--that, combined with the superb cast, are constantly engaging and sincerely touching. --Bret Fetzer

A Missed Gem, 2010-05-30
Happy Accidents is one of those films you stumble upon, then can't believe not everyone has heard of. It's clever, suspenseful, funny and engaging. Marisa Tomei plays a New Yorker in search of love. As New Yorkers are apt to do, she details the ups and downs of her search to her shrink. She's just met the most wonderful guy. Then she realizes all of a sudden he's crazy. Or is he? This is a film that can't easily be categorised. I would call it perhaps a Sci-Fi-therapy-suspense-comedy. Whatever you call it, it's a tremendously uplifting film, warm but not sappy. Highly recommended.
 One god-awful movie...a waste of time, 2009-08-30
We had never heard of this movie before, and we thought, 'Marisa Tomei, Vincent D'Onofrio, in what appears to be a romance story....might be pretty good.'
Nothing could be further from the truth. This is without a doubt one of the worst movies we have *ever* seen. Incoherent story line, nothing in it to hook your interest, *bad* acting (especially from these two usually great actors -- what were they thinking when they agreed to make this pile of *&%$#@%?).
Our only conclusion was that (1) they did it just for the money, or (2) whoever edited the thing left the coherent, good acting/scenes on the cutting room floor, and spliced together this mess with the leftovers.
DON'T waste your time on this --- you've been warned!! :-)
Playing with time may lead to an endless loop, 2010-07-19
Ruby has met and dated every kind of jerk and crackpot there is to find and date. Or so she'd thought. She was leaving that all behind her. Then she met Sam. He seemed fine. A little quirky but nothing too unusual. Not too unusual until he announces that he's a time traveler anyway. Still if that is all that is wrong with him maybe, just maybe, she can make this one work?
Take the feel of K-Pax (is he or he is not what he says?) and mix it with a chick flick and you get Happy Accidents.
Good actors---weak story line, 2008-12-24
The acting was superb but the story line was pretty weak. The movie would have been a lot better if it were a lot shorter. It seemed to go on and on and I guessed some of the surprises before they happened. Watch it if you're curious. I don't think it deserves all the rave reviews.

I really loved this movie.It was very well acted and kept me interested throughout the film.
